Visiting NYC: Day 1

We are on our annual art department trip to NYC! The trip from Wheeling was problem-free, but we drove through rain for nearly the entire time. Paul Padgett and I dropped Lambros and our 7 West Liberty students off at the PATH station and headed to the parking garage in Hoboken. Once we park the van we can usually get back to meet them at the station in about 15 or 20 minutes. Not today! We waited for 30 minutes for a taxi that never showed, and then walked to the bus stop in the pouring rain. Another half hour and we finally connected with our party at the PATH station.

We got off the PATH train at Christopher Street and caught the subway to Grand Street, not far from our hotel. We are staying at the Best Western Bowery Hambee Hotel which is situated right smack between China Town and Little Italy. The hotel is bright, clean, and SMOKE FREE! Plus, the staff have been helpful and freindly.

We grabbed some dinner in China Town and then caught the subway for Times Square. Most of the students on this trip have been to NYC before and this is a nice introduction. However, the rain kept on coming down non-stop. As I write this, our damp clothes are hung throughout our room with the hope that they will be dry by morning.

Tomorrow morning we head to the Bronx to visit the sculpture studio of Matt Nolan and visit Seymour Chwast at Push Pin Studio in the afternoon. The weather report is predicting a cloudy but DRY day tomorrow. Time for bed!
