San Francisco/ part 2.

    While in San Francisco, Chris and I visited a gallery on Larkin Street called The Shooting Gallery. It was here that we viewed an exhibition called Into the Woods by artist Isabel Samaras. Samaras’ paintings are incredible! To me, the paintings were this wonderful mix of urban life meets the forest creatures and the result is full blown, butt-kicking great! Part of the show is a twist on the fairy tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Samaras’ images would make a great book, but not for the kiddies.

     Next door to The Shooting Gallery, and connected by an open walkway, is the gallery White Walls. Artist Ian Johnson‘s acrylic paintings focus on the innovators of jazz. Johnson tends to render the jazz artists themselves in a monochromatic palette, while the negative space is handled in bold, vibrant color. Johnson is also a designer for Western Edition skateboards and you can see his jazz influence carried over to several of their decks. Below are a few shots from the exhibition:
